The Acropolis Museum welcomes spring with a distinctive chamber music event in the Parthenon Gallery on Tuesday, 31 March 2026, performed by the Woodwind Quintet, as part of the "Musical Walks" series organized by the Athens State Orchestra.
The concert program highlights the richness and versatility of the Woodwind Quintet through works that bridge the European tradition with the American musical idiom. The evening opens with the "American" String Quartet No. 12 by Antonín Dvořák, presented here in an arrangement for winds, where simplicity and lyricism are combined with influences from American folk music. It is followed by the "Five Dances" by Dénes Agay, pieces characterized by strong rhythm, humor, and references to Hungarian tradition. The concert concludes with Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin, arranged for woodwind quintet, an iconic work that blends classical music with the vitality and energy of jazz. An evening of vivid contrasts and vibrant timbres, showcasing the virtuosity and expressive power of wind instruments.
